Happy 2014 to All Y'all. I welcomed this new year that began with a nice pot of black-eyed peas, collard greens and corn bread. Eating black-eyed peas is a tradition in the South USA that began in Civil War era of 1864 with Sherman’s March to the Sea when General William T. Sherman marched from the captured City of Atlanta towards the Port of Savannah. He ordered his troops to strip the land of all food, crops & livestock. Sherman told them to destroy anything they could not carry away. In the North, Yankees knew black-eyed peas as “cowpeas” or “field peas” which only were fed to cattle up North. Since they had already either taken or eaten all of the cattle, they saw no need to destroy this crop because they thought humans only eat "English peas". Of course they were tired and worn from all their battles so they conserved their energies and left the fields of black-eyed peas alone. So, after the Civil War, black-eyed peas were one of the only sources of food in the South which saved thousands of Southerners from starvation. From New Year’s Day forward, the tradition grew to eat black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day for Good Luck and Prosperity. Well, we've had our peas... Let's enjoy this year of good luck & prosperity for ALL.

2012 has come and gone. Hurricanes & northeasters wreaked havoc with travels on & off this coastal barrier island. Beach access continues to be an issue. The new rules have just about kept me off the beach altogether. When I do go out there, there's so few places to access that the rules have taken most of the fun out of going to the beach for myself and others.
My dog boarding business suffered setbacks with a record amount of cancellations this past winter partially due to the difficulties of travel to and from Hatteras Island. I've had to apply for other unrelated part time work and somehow fit that work in amongst the demands of clients. It seems that just when I'm about to totally convince myself to change my line of work then a new client calls and puts me to work. I'm still reeling from this past winter of hardly any work and there is absolutely no unemployment benefits for the self-employed. I'm starting back to work on some of my artistic pursuits in making "medicine jewelery" and painting landscapes and abstracts on driftwood, shells, stones & canvas. Perhaps I can conjure up enough money to repair my camera so I can take more pictures to sell more of my photography. If you are curious of what I photograph then please direct your attention to my photo albums on this site as well as the photos on http://nirvanahatteras.weebly.com and then please visit my site on http://www.redbubble.com/tamarama. I'm considering all the red tape involved in starting a small seafood business although it seems the local county commissioners are at odds with small-time business so who knows if that idea will ever pan out. In the meantime I am available for intuitive consultations, readings and distance reiki healing. Please call and make an appointment. Thank you. Many Blessings to you as well. Today Woofie got to spend the day with us so he could have a little variety & distraction while his Ma is away making the dough... Boonie & Maple have been boarding here for the week and met Woofie for the first time about ten minutes before I videoed their antics. Woofie is about the same size as Maple so they were well suited in stature & demeanor to play well together. Boonie seems to be used to being the center of attention but here he seems a bit humbled & perplexed that Maple & Woofie aren't including him. It didn't take long for all three to play together. All three were tired & happy dogs by days end. I posted more pix on the http://www.facebook.com/hatterasdogdaycare page . So I just met Lily early this morning before our beach-walk when my neighbor appeared & asked if I could day-care Lily today. Her sad tale was of being abandoned by an insensitive owner just because he couldn't have a dog where-ever he'd moved to. He left the dog to fend for itself back in a Buxton Coastal Woods Reserve neighborhood. Sure there were a few neighbors around but none seemed to be care-taking the dog. So my big-hearted neighbor collected Lily, brought her home, picked a lot of ticks off of her and thought he would keep her for a week or so while looking for a home for her as he already has a hound. Naturally I came to mind to care-take her while he tended to other commitments today. So today I met Lily for the first time. She's got a white blaze on her chest & tummy and white "slippers" & the rest of her is jet-black. Probably a Labrador retriever & American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit-Bull). Her temperament was a little timid at first but as soon as I said "'LILLY'", she perked right up. I put the harness on her as I was told that she tends to put the brakes on when the lead is attached to her neck-collar. She was good in the car. She settled right down & slept in the car while we drove to the ramp and onto the beach. The harness was a good call and she didn't "put the brakes on" as much. Plus with Mags setting an example for the young dog to follow, she had no problem walking with our "little pack". I had obtained permission to share her plight on facebook so I snapped some photos and posted them on my FB page. No sooner than I posted it, my phone rang & some dear heart told me of a dog-wanted ad that might fit as a potential home for Lily' So I found the ad, wrote the e-mail and not very much later I had a positive reply. So now it appears that Lily may have a full-time home with a dear lady who'll be soon moving to the Outer Banks. The timing worked out precisely w emails & phone calls that introductions were made w the neighbor to the potential new Ma for Lily. So far it's a go. Intuitively I feel strongly that it's a fit for both of them. Everything just fell into place. Angels in heaven must be watching over us & helping put all the pieces back in place to keep the love flowing amongst all creatures great & small. . . Thanks, we can sure use all the help we can get!
That Lily, she's a lucky dog today! And that "lady" is so blessed as well. Thank you B, L & J for your love & help! It's nice to know that there are still some people around that will step up & step in... Namaste. ~*~ So now that the warmer weather is upon us, (Yaaaayyyyyy!!!!), there's ample weather conditions to enjoy some REIKI sessions at the beach. Imagine gazing at the ocean while having your chakras tuned-up. . . Only by donation and appointment that I offer REIKI healing sessions to enjoy in the beautiful natural setting of the Cape Hatteras Seashore. Call me to set up a time & place.

Beautiful Hatteras Spring weather beckons us all to the outdoors to enjoy the nice breezes and lovely skies. April showers are a little early but are welcomed as drought has been a tendency these past few years. Just after last years Hurricane Irene passed through with record rains, then it seemed rain was minimal enough to cause the loss of many trees & shrubs to salt water damage. I know that in my yard I lost numerous flora because the water table was so high and the trees had nearly nothing but salt water to drink.
Those dead trees now harbor bugs for the birds, reptiles and amphibians to feed on so the cycle of life, death and renewal continues... Happy & Blessed Spring to you! People are outraged at the newest planned fees imposed upon patrons of the beaches of hatteras & ocracoke. Be aware that similar tactics of take over & land-grabbing are being used all over the USA. Agenda 21 has arrived at Cape Hatteras. It seems the vultures are waiting on the sidelines to pick what's left off the bones of hatteras & ocracoke islands.
http://www.carolinajournal.com/exclusives/display_exclusive.html?id=8642#.TzaK50YrI3J.facebook it seems fishing is slated only for the elite. so is driving on the beach on hatteras & ocracoke. http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/north_carolina/residents-sue-over-driving-restrictions?ref=scroller&categoryId=20000&status=true "House Bill 353 the Game Fish Status Bill would ban speckled trout, red drum and striped bass from seafood markets and local restaurants. It would ban our commercial fishing families from catching and selling these fish. It would ban tourists and citizens of the state of North Carolina from being able to buy these fish. Only recreational fishermen who caught these fish themselves would be allowed to have these fish."~(https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1682601603#!/pages/No-To-Game-Fish-Status/235554816531222) The HB353 is so wrong in so many ways. Look how they use junk science to justify pushing the elites agenda. It's not right how they bend the statistics. Do you know why only a small percentage of fish was caught according to their extrapolation of the statistics? Most likely the % of fishermen has dwindled to practically nothing and then the few fishermen weren't allowed to catch many. It's just like them using the plover and nesting sea turtle data and not taking in consideration the environmental factors such as hurricanes, or not including in their population count the nesting colonies on all those little dredge islands in the pamlico sound or the plovers that are nesting on the roof of foodlion... Instead they bend the data to suit an agenda and they have money and ignorance of trusting sheeople to back them up. Please look into these travesties and help get your park back so you can use it and also say NO to HB353. Here is an update on the beach access issues on Cape Hatteras. Another lawsuit is being filed against NPS. See the islandfreepressDOTorg article:
